About the role

  • Part-time facilitator delivering The Salvation Army’s school cooking and nutrition program for Grades 6-8 students. Coordinating meals, volunteers, food safety, partnerships, and program reporting in London.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, facilitate, and evaluate the Let's Eat Breakfast Program across up to three elementary schools
  • Develop program plans, schedules, meal calendars, and educational activities
  • Deliver hands-on cooking and nutrition education for students in Grades 6-8
  • Foster a safe, supportive, inclusive learning environment promoting dignity, teamwork, leadership, confidence, and life skills
  • Encourage student participation, retention, feedback, and involvement in other Salvation Army youth programs
  • Build relationships with participants and provide mentorship, guidance, and recognition
  • Maintain attendance and participation records
  • Develop nutritious, culturally responsive, budget-conscious menus
  • Purchase food, supplies, and program materials within approved budgets
  • Lead students and volunteers in preparing breakfast items and other approved food products
  • Instruct participants in safe kitchen equipment, food preparation, allergy management, sanitation, storage, and food safety practices
  • Maintain inventory, production records, food distribution statistics, and clean kitchen and storage areas
  • Communicate with school staff regarding meal production, storage, distribution, schedules, menus, participation, and outcomes
  • Build relationships with principals, teachers, educational assistants, school support staff, volunteers, community partners, and stakeholders
  • Recruit, orient, train, schedule, supervise, and support volunteers
  • Support partnerships, donations, community awareness, and program sustainability
  • Maintain records and report on attendance, participation, volunteers, meals, food security, nutrition education, and skill development
  • Submit monthly statistics and reports and assist with grant reporting, donor stewardship, impact data, promotional materials, social media content, presentations, and fundraising stories
  • Participate in program evaluation, planning, debriefs, budget development, and continuous improvement
  • Respond to incidents, concerns, complaints, calls, emails, and program inquiries
  • Assist students with a year-end recipe collection
  • Coordinate recognition activities, celebrations, and graduation acknowledgements
  • Support participant honorariums and participate in special, community, and seasonal events
  • Comply with Ontario Health and Safety Act requirements and Salvation Army health and safety policies
  • Perform other duties as required

Requirements

  • Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) is required
  • Equivalent combination of education, training, lived experience, and relevant work experience will be considered
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license, personal vehicle, insurance, and satisfactory current driver’s abstract required
  • Safe Food Handling Certification required
  • Standard First Aid and CPR Certification required, or willingness to obtain within a specified timeframe
  • Current Background Check with vulnerable sector screening required
  • Salvation Army Abuse Registry screening required
  • Minimum one (1) year of related experience working with children and youth
  • Experience facilitating group-based programs, activities, or educational workshops
  • Experience maintaining program records, statistics, and outcome measurements
  • Knowledge of food safety principles, healthy nutrition practices, and kitchen operations
  • Understanding of food insecurity and school nutrition programs
  • Strong facilitation and youth engagement skills
  • Ability to create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment
  • Strong organizational, time management, planning, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to maintain accurate records, statistics, and program documentation
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications
  • High standards of integrity, sound judgment, problem-solving, confidentiality, and alignment with The Salvation Army’s mission
  • Ability and willingness to understand and support The Salvation Army’s mission and purpose in Canada
  • Ability to lift/move 20 lbs. and frequently reach, bend, twist, stoop, stand, sit, unpack delivery vehicles, and use a computer keyboard
  • Flexibility in scheduling, including evening work
  • Frequent travel and work at various locations throughout the City of London
  • Must wear Salvation Army branded clothing provided by the employer
