About the role
- Senior AI Data Engineer building production AI systems and marketing data infrastructure for Samsara’s connected-operations IoT platform. Automating workflows and enabling data-driven decisions.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate production AI systems, including agent orchestration, tool and API integrations, retrieval pipelines, and evaluation harnesses
- Architect and maintain marketing databases, datasets, pipelines, and Samsara’s Customer Data Platform (CDP)
- Partner with the BI team to expand conversational analytics across marketing
- Identify and automate manual workflows with AI from concept through production
- Stand up end-to-end data pipelines and integrate newly onboarded tools into downstream systems
- Own the reliability and data quality of built systems
- Translate ambiguous business questions into technical requirements and scalable solutions with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Ship high-quality Python and SQL and review AI-generated code before production
- Mentor engineers, conduct code reviews, and define team best practices
Requirements
- 5+ years of working experience in data engineering or AI engineering, including meaningful hands-on data engineering experience
- Expert Python and SQL knowledge with strong hands-on data modeling experience
- Experience building and shipping production systems using LLMs or agents
- Regular use of agentic coding tools such as Claude Code or Cursor, with verification and ownership of AI-generated output
- Deep experience with data warehouse architectures, ETL/ELT, and modern data stack technologies such as Databricks, dbt, Snowflake, or BigQuery
- Ability to independently lead requirements gathering and bridge business needs with technical implementation
- Strong communication and project management skills across technical and non-technical audiences
- Software engineering background beyond data or AI engineering
- Experience directly supporting a business function such as marketing, sales, finance, or business operations
- Experience evaluating and monitoring LLM systems in production
- Familiarity with CRM, marketing automation, web analytics, and CDP systems such as Salesforce, Hightouch, or Segment
