About the role
- Advanced Heat Treat Operator running furnaces, inspections, and production processes for Schaeffler’s aerospace manufacturing operations. Maintaining quality, safety, equipment performance, and production efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Set up, operate and monitor all department heat treat furnaces
- Troubleshoot equipment and process problems and take corrective action within standard departmental procedures
- Control heat treat distortion through specific heat treat processes using standard fixturing methods
- Micro-schedule parts through furnace operations according to routered heat treat specifications
- Optimize furnace load efficiency while minimizing furnace downtime
- Move work between departmental operations, including heat treating, tempering, stress relief and annealing
- Perform parts cleaning operations
- Set up and operate sandblasters for pre-treatment operations
- Follow departmental work instructions and perform scheduled operations
- Record data in routers, IMS and other production tracking systems
- Perform routine dimensional, hardness and ferromat inspections and calibrations
- Inspect completed work
- Train other operators as needed
- Work in other departments or set up machines for other operators when required
- Maintain excellent housekeeping and 5S standards
Requirements
- Grade 12 diploma
- Demonstrated competency as Heat Treat Operator or mechanical aptitude
- Ability to set up, operate and monitor heat treat furnaces
- Ability to troubleshoot equipment and process problems and take corrective action
- Ability to control heat treat distortion using standard fixturing methods
- Ability to manually use material handling devices
- Ability to perform parts cleaning operations
- Ability to set up and operate sandblasters
- Ability to accurately record data in routers, IMS and other production tracking systems
- Ability to perform dimensional, hardness and ferromat inspections and calibrations
- Ability to inspect own work
- Ability to train other operators as needed
- Ability to read and interpret production prints
- Adequate computer skills to access production procedures
- Ability to meet skill requirements in the applicable training matrix and maintain certification through the company Certified Operator Program
- Ability to comply with facial-hair removal requirements for fit-testing and production requirements
- Must be able to pass Canadian Controlled Goods Assessment and criminal background check
- Must be compliant with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR)
- Temporary residents/international students require a Canadian government exemption for access to export-controlled goods
- Pacemakers and insulin pumps cannot enter Heat Treat areas due to magnetic interference
