About the role

  • Advanced Heat Treat Operator running furnaces, inspections, and production processes for Schaeffler’s aerospace manufacturing operations. Maintaining quality, safety, equipment performance, and production efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate and monitor all department heat treat furnaces
  • Troubleshoot equipment and process problems and take corrective action within standard departmental procedures
  • Control heat treat distortion through specific heat treat processes using standard fixturing methods
  • Micro-schedule parts through furnace operations according to routered heat treat specifications
  • Optimize furnace load efficiency while minimizing furnace downtime
  • Move work between departmental operations, including heat treating, tempering, stress relief and annealing
  • Perform parts cleaning operations
  • Set up and operate sandblasters for pre-treatment operations
  • Follow departmental work instructions and perform scheduled operations
  • Record data in routers, IMS and other production tracking systems
  • Perform routine dimensional, hardness and ferromat inspections and calibrations
  • Inspect completed work
  • Train other operators as needed
  • Work in other departments or set up machines for other operators when required
  • Maintain excellent housekeeping and 5S standards

Requirements

  • Grade 12 diploma
  • Demonstrated competency as Heat Treat Operator or mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to set up, operate and monitor heat treat furnaces
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment and process problems and take corrective action
  • Ability to control heat treat distortion using standard fixturing methods
  • Ability to manually use material handling devices
  • Ability to perform parts cleaning operations
  • Ability to set up and operate sandblasters
  • Ability to accurately record data in routers, IMS and other production tracking systems
  • Ability to perform dimensional, hardness and ferromat inspections and calibrations
  • Ability to inspect own work
  • Ability to train other operators as needed
  • Ability to read and interpret production prints
  • Adequate computer skills to access production procedures
  • Ability to meet skill requirements in the applicable training matrix and maintain certification through the company Certified Operator Program
  • Ability to comply with facial-hair removal requirements for fit-testing and production requirements
  • Must be able to pass Canadian Controlled Goods Assessment and criminal background check
  • Must be compliant with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR)
  • Temporary residents/international students require a Canadian government exemption for access to export-controlled goods
  • Pacemakers and insulin pumps cannot enter Heat Treat areas due to magnetic interference
