About the role

  • Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer at Stantec leading various geotechnical projects. Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams in Calgary, Alberta and developing managerial and technical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Use your technical and communication skillset to plan and execute geotechnical investigations, complete geotechnical analysis and reporting deliverables, and provide design support to multidiscipline teams.
  • Perform site inspection and supervision, as required.
  • Complete business development activities and prepare proposals.
  • Lead and manage geotechnical projects and design tasks.
  • Develop and maintain strong client and contractor relations.
  • Mentoring, coaching, and training junior staff.
  • Travel as required for various field programs.

Requirements

  • Strong client, sub-consultant and contractor management experience.
  • Strong technical understanding and experience with soil and rock classification, foundation design recommendations, slope stability, earthworks construction, pipeline construction, pavement design, trenchless utility installations and other geotechnical design aspects.
  • Proficiency with common geotechnical software (e.g., GeoStudio software suite, LPILE, gINT, and Settle3).
  • Experience with finite element and limit equilibrium analysis software (e.g., PLAXIS) is desirable
  • Excellent organizational ability, report writing, and verbal communication are essential.
  • Project experience with City of Calgary, Alberta Infrastructure, and Alberta Transportation would be considered an asset.
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering or Geological Engineering from a recognized university.
  • Post graduate degree (MSc) or doctorate in Geological, Geotechnical or Civil Engineering would be an asset.
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience geotechnical engineering design and consulting, primarily in Alberta or Western Canada.
  • Professional Engineer in good standing with APEGA, or the ability to obtain the professional designation.
