About the role

  • Actuarial analyst valuing reserves and insurance liabilities for TD Insurance, serving over four million Canadian customers. Developing methodologies, reports, and risk controls.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in quarterly reserve valuations
  • Establish actuarial reserves for all lines of business and the methodologies underlying key assumption selections
  • Monitor and update key assumptions monthly, then measure the impact of changes
  • Deliver claims liabilities and ultimate profitability results for insurance entities
  • Develop and present forward-looking analyses of emerging trends
  • Develop, enhance, and optimize valuation tools and techniques
  • Maintain and create reports tracking the evolution of actuarial reserves
  • Compare actual losses with expected losses monthly
  • Prepare appointed actuary reports for all legal entities
  • Coordinate the communication and certification of financial results with business partners, external auditors, the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF), and the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI)
  • Implement risk-control measures and improve policies, procedures, and processes
  • Coach, develop, and inspire colleagues to achieve their objectives

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science or a related field of study
  • Associate designation or the ambition to pursue CAS, CIA, or equivalent examinations
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in an actuarial role related to property and casualty insurance
  • Sound judgment and analytical thinking
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to anticipate the results of a given analysis or report
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Ability to innovate and demonstrate creativity and critical thinking
  • Knowledge of MS Excel (VBA) and programming languages (e.g., R/Python)
  • Knowledge of IFRS 17 is an asset
  • Ability to make quick decisions in certain situations
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and verbal
  • Ability to adapt communication to the audience
  • Ability to work effectively during peak periods
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with various business partners and build lasting relationships
  • Self-motivated and persistent
  • Proficiency in a language other than French to provide support to or interact with employees who require services and support in a language other than French
