Responsibilities
Assign, research, edit, and package photography for digital and print platforms
Work with photographers to shape story ideas from start to finish
Collaborate with designers, developers, photo editors, data journalists, and graphic artists
Contribute to long-term investigative projects, breaking news, and immersive story formats
Advocate within the newsroom for the power and value of visuals in journalism
Improve processes and workflows in an evolving media environment
Work independently and collaboratively under daily deadline pressures
Requirements
Experience as a photo editor for a media organization, or equivalent experience and a proven track record as a photojournalist
Strong understanding of the legal and ethical underpinnings of photojournalism in a digital age
Excellent judgement for evaluating visual stories, including technical and aesthetic details, pacing, and story structure
Ability to evaluate and provide feedback on freelance pitches and story ideas
Strong understanding of the technical aspects of photography
Ability to clearly communicate photography requirements to other visual journalists
Familiarity with trends in digital journalism and the role of visuals across distributed platforms such as Instagram and Apple News
Understanding of digital and print design principles is an asset
Ability to work some evenings and weekends
