About the role

  • Senior L&D advisor shaping enterprise learning strategies for the University of Alberta. Designing training, mentoring instructional designers, and enabling adoption of major organizational change initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Build comprehensive, end-to-end learning and training strategies supporting complex enterprise projects, including system implementations, organizational restructuring, and process transformations
  • Guide, mentor, and oversee junior instructional designers and external L&D contractors
  • Develop and maintain instructional design standards and methodology, ensuring quality control and organizational alignment
  • Manage L&D resources across multiple simultaneous initiatives and meet milestones and deadlines
  • Design and develop complex training materials, including eLearning modules, instructor-led training decks, job aids, quick reference guides, and multimedia content
  • Facilitate training sessions, train-the-trainer sessions, executive briefings, and end-user workshops
  • Establish metrics to measure training effectiveness, knowledge retention, and business impact
  • Iterate training based on feedback and performance data
  • Partner with Project Managers, OCM practitioners, and business leaders to integrate learning plans into enterprise change enablement
  • Serve as an expert resource on learning and development and lead complex specialized work
  • Maintain relevance in adult learning research, instructional design practice, and learning technology and bring developments into University practice

Requirements

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in Learning & Development, Instructional Design, or Training Management, specifically supporting large-scale enterprise projects
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Adult Education, Human Resources, Organizational Development, or a closely related field is required
  • Equivalent combination of an undergraduate degree in a related discipline, relevant professional certification, and extensive senior-level professional experience may be considered
  • Proven hands-on experience utilizing instructional design models such as ADDIE and SAM and adult learning theories
  • Demonstrated experience managing external vendors and contractors
  • Experience mentoring junior team members
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating ability to build high-level L&D strategy and detailed instructional materials
  • Deep understanding of how L&D intersects with Organizational Change Management
  • Familiarity with Prosci or similar OCM frameworks is a strong plus
