About the role

  • University of Alberta production assistant coordinating arts exhibitions, festivals, and participatory research events. Supporting artists and managing technical, administrative, accessibility, and communications activities for smartwear research.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule, facilitate, and set up in-person, online, and hybrid events, meetings, workshops, and virtual festivals
  • Provide technical and administrative support to artists, choreographers, performers, and designers
  • Assist in overseeing safety, health, and accessibility standards for public art events, artist residencies, team interactions, and audiences
  • Assist with drafting artist contracts, processing reimbursements, managing consent agreements, and handling credit card reconciliations
  • Liaise between working groups, project coordinators, and team members
  • Assist with gathering information for research assistantships (GRAFs)
  • Assist with writing and amending research ethics applications and maintaining participant communications
  • Maintain a multimedia database and organize submissions for open festival calls
  • Follow data-management procedures for team meetings, videos, and data
  • Assist with video and image editing for research and promotional materials, catalogues, and publications
  • Assist with website and app design, development, and maintenance
  • Publicize events and prepare accessible print materials for workshops and symposia

Requirements

  • Minimum Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) or Bachelor of Arts (BA)
  • Proven experience mounting large exhibitions or performances
  • Experience working in art studio environments
  • Strong familiarity with diverse artistic techniques
  • Knowledge of arts-based and/or participatory research methods
  • Digital skills including Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and Adobe Suite
  • Graphic design, web design, and image/video editing skills
  • Knowledge of virtual festival setup, mirroring live performances online, and creating virtual artworks
  • Academic and plain-language editing skills
  • First Aid/CPR certification is considered a strong asset
  • Bilingual English/French is ideal
