About the role

  • Provide direction and oversight for pay systems and processes, ensuring compliance and system readiness.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direction, coordination, scheduling, and oversight to Pay, HR, and other staff on the operation of pay systems and processes. Balance system activities with available analytical resources and system capabilities. Assign analysts to perform pay processing activities including production pay runs, pension system A/P runs, tax/T4 processing, and personally perform these activities when assigned. Ensure training, procedures, scheduling, and work assignments are provided to Pay Services analysts. Ensure systems are updated and ready for year-end table changes, tax changes, and other operational requirements. Ensure compliance with pay legislation, collective agreement requirements, statutory remittances, T4s, OHP Offset, ROEs, and other pay-related responsibilities. Organize, coordinate, and execute Pay Services system testing, requirements specifications, and high-volume testing activities. Monitor pay production and provide support throughout the complete pay production process, including system issue resolution. Coordinate bulk uploads, pay rate changes, tax credit indexing, and other payroll activities with Compensation, HR, Finance, and related departments. Provide direction to analysts for resolving complex payroll issues and correcting errors.

Requirements

  • Requires knowledge of accounting principles, payroll procedures, business practices, government regulations, income tax requirements, pensions, and vendor payment functions. Requires strong English communication skills and technical writing ability for procedures, instructions, and reports. Requires completion of four years of university training in an appropriate field or equivalent education. Requires a minimum of two years of experience in payroll operations and payroll analytics, including end-to-end payroll processing, year-end processing, payroll reconciliations, statutory remittances, taxable benefits, ROEs, retro pay, terminations, and pay adjustments. Strong analytical skills are required to analyze payroll trends, investigate discrepancies, recommend solutions, prepare reports, support audits, and perform data validation. Experience supporting CA implementation, including system configuration, testing, data validation, documentation, and post-implementation support is required. PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) designation required. PLP (Payroll Leadership Professional) is an asset.
