About the role
- Staff Backend Engineer improving CI pipelines, automation, and developer productivity at Affirm, a flexible-pay platform. Leading reliable build systems across engineering.
Responsibilities
- Own the design, scalability, and reliability of build pipelines across multiple services and platforms
- Optimize build times, test coverage, reporting, and developer feedback cycles
- Implement monitoring, alerting, and incident response processes for CI systems
- Collaborate across engineering on integrations and deployment workflows
- Identify developer pain points and lead productivity improvements through tooling, automation, and best practices
- Evangelize CI/CD practices across the organization
- Contribute to and help drive the vision for continuous integration and developer productivity infrastructure
- Lead and mentor CI engineers
- Partner with engineering leadership to align CI systems with product and platform goals
Requirements
- Proven experience driving and leading engineering efforts in CI, build systems, or developer productivity domains
- Strong background in modern build systems, e.g. GitHub, Buildkite, and Artifactory
- Familiarity with AWS, Kubernetes, and infrastructure-as-code practices
- Programming experience in Python, Kotlin, Java, or similar
- Ability to guide technical decision-making
- Proficiency managing build systems and frameworks for large monorepos
- Equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field
- Curiosity about AI tools and emerging technologies, with willingness to learn and leverage them
- Open source contributions or large-scale software development experience at a leading tech company is a plus
