Telecom Lifecycle Engineer focusing on lifecycle assessments and maintenance for telecom equipment. Collaborating with teams to optimize performance and resolve issues for Alberta's utility sector.
Responsibilities
Conduct life cycle assessments for telecom equipment, including supporting the development of purchasing specifications, improving equipment maintenance standards, developing troubleshooting procedures, completing life extension alternative assessments, creating sparing plans and optimizing replacement selection criteria.
Lead GTA business case development and answer regulatory requests.
Apply the Condition Monitoring and Assessment (CMA) process for asset condition trending and analysis focusing on telecom equipment.
Assist in the development and implementation of comprehensive preventative maintenance programs for telecom equipment to enhance the longevity and reliability while optimizing the effectiveness and efficiency of offline maintenance.
Monitor in-service devices for widespread issues related to hardware and firmware.
Investigate and resolve systemic telecom equipment defects and deficiencies.
Perform end of life expectancy assessments and equipment condition assessments.
Provide innovative solutions for system reliability, safety and efficiency improvements.
Perform telecom equipment sparing assessments.
Work closely with Field Technologists in troubleshooting and resolving issues during maintenance/testing in consultation with other internal partners.
Participate in the development, modification or interpretation of standards and practices associated with maintenance.
Maintain effective working relationships with suppliers, partners and internal clients that result in growing understanding, good decisions, and effective cooperation.

Requirements
Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
Engineer-In-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PEng.) with the Association of Professional Engineers, and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) or qualifies for registration with APEGA.
Formal training in Telecom would be an asset.
Proven ability/experience in above noted responsibilities.
Knowledge of modern Telecom devices in utility applications.
Familiarity with Telecom vendor software would be an asset.
Knowledge and understanding of electric transmission system operation, maintenance, performance, and power equipment.
Knowledge of applicable standards such as CSA, ANSI, IEC and IEEE standards.
Proven track record of producing innovative, productivity enhancing and forward thinking solutions. Demonstrated strong analytical, risk assessment and problem solving skills.
Familiarity with local area networks, communication schemes, platforms and protocols used to provide local and remote interrogation with substation relays, meters, fault recorders and other intelligent electronic devices (IEDs) would be an asset.
Effective communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills to interface with team members and customers to promote positive customer outcomes.
Comfortable working in a dynamic changing environment with multiple, occasionally conflicting priorities.
Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage a wide variety of issues on multiple projects simultaneously.
Proven track record of good attendance and performance.
