About the role
- Equine veterinarian delivering ambulatory, medical, and surgical care at Delaney Veterinary Services, Alberta’s premier equine referral facility. Handling varied cases, emergencies, dentistry, herd health, and lameness.
Responsibilities
- Work alongside a six-veterinarian team including three surgeons and three associate veterinarians
- Participate in daily team rounds to discuss cases and upcoming appointments
- Provide ambulatory, medical, and surgical equine veterinary services
- Handle varied cases ranging from family horses to elite competitors
- Manage emergencies and surgeries in-house from start to finish
- Build a practice and client base
- Mentor and support visiting students, externs, and interns
- Provide care involving herd health, dentistry, and lameness
- Evaluate and treat cases using the hospital's surgical suite, recovery rooms, intensive care barn, endoscopy, digital radiography, ultrasonography, lameness diagnostics, and shockwave therapy
- Evaluate lameness cases year-round in the indoor lameness center
Requirements
- Equine veterinarian
- Professional veterinary experience
- Confident communication skills to build trust with clients and colleagues
- Drive and vision to build a practice and client base
- Interest in mentoring and supporting students, externs, and interns
- Desire for exposure to herd health, dentistry, and lameness
- Ability to work in ambulatory practice and see cases in-clinic
- Veterinary membership and licensing eligibility
