About the role

  • Mechanical Proposal Engineer at ANDRITZ Canada, contributing to hydroelectric turbine submissions and ensuring technical competitiveness. Collaborating with experts to deliver comprehensive project proposals.

Responsibilities

  • Identify technical constraints and requirements based on client specifications and the company's design practices.
  • Define the complete technical proposal including costs for supply, transport, engineering, and quality assurance, and prepare the technical documentation.
  • Establish the procurement plan with support from the estimator.
  • Develop the project schedule with support from the planner.
  • Perform preliminary design of turbine layouts and components for the proposal.
  • Prepare tender documents for the various turbine components and site services to send to suppliers.
  • Negotiate with key suppliers, in collaboration with the cost estimator for proposals.
  • Play a key role in preparing the winning strategy for the technical proposal, validate it as an appropriate strategy, and ensure team members follow it.
  • Lead and challenge assigned engineering resources who will execute the turbine design for the proposal.
  • Ensure technical risk analysis is completed and that necessary actions/exceptions are included in the proposal.
  • Conduct technical negotiations with the client to support the submission.

Requirements

  • Bilingualism - French and English (required)
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in hydroelectric power plants (primarily turbines)
  • Knowledge of technical aspects of hydroelectric equipment; commercial/business knowledge is an asset
  • Design experience (hydroelectric turbine experience is an asset)
  • Field experience in assembly/installation of hydro turbine-generator units is an asset
  • Project management skills - able to manage multiple complex tasks on a daily basis
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in a multi-stakeholder environment
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities in team settings
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, sound judgment, initiative, and creativity.
