About the role

Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver the functional, preliminary, and detailed design phases for a diverse and impactful range of transportation infrastructure projects, from municipal roads and highways to LRT/BRT corridors and active transportation facilities.
  • Prepare and review design documents, construction drawings, specifications, and cost estimates for roadways, intersections, and transit facilities.
  • Collaborate closely with other engineering disciplines to coordinate utility, drainage, and grading designs.
  • Support tender package preparation, respond to contractor inquiries during construction, and perform rigorous quality checks.
  • Mentor junior staff and shape the team’s technical best practices, maintaining strong client relationships.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with PEO or eligible to obtain P.Eng. within 12 months
  • 3-6 years of direct experience in transportation design including municipal roads, highways, LRT/BRT, intersection improvements, and active transportation infrastructure; roundabout and protected intersection design experience considered an asset
  • Proficient in MicroStation, OpenRoads, AutoCAD, Civil 3D
  • Working knowledge of specialized software such as Synchro and AutoTurn to support design tasks
  • Strong understanding of relevant technical standards including TAC Geometric Design Guide, Ontario Traffic Manuals, City of Ottawa design standards and policies, and the Ontario Highway Traffic Act
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple design tasks, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
