About the role
- Manufacturing Operator operating spray-drying and packaging equipment. Producing specialty ingredients that enhance health and well-being at Balchem’s Barrhead facility.
Responsibilities
- Obtain knowledge, training, and experience to operate and maintain spray drying equipment in the manufacturing facility according to ISO and GMP guidelines
- Mix ingredients into product vessels accurately
- Maintain and monitor critical control points of the process
- Operate production, packaging, spray dryer, mixing vessel, and processing equipment
- Carry out basic quality and testing checks
- Complete process documents, inventory control procedures, and production batch records accurately
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Use lifting equipment and forklift trucks safely
- Learn and perform material-blending procedures
- Follow GMP, ISO, Kosher, Halal, CIP and COP chemical-cleaning requirements, work instructions, safety and quality guidelines, documentation, and proper material handling
- Assist with water room duties, including adjusting pH and adding antifoam
- Assist in standardization of facility-specific Work Instructions
- Contribute to team tasks and annual departmental goals
- Clean equipment and surrounding work areas
Requirements
- Physically healthy and able to work standing/walking for 12-hour periods
- Prior experience in a food or other manufacturing environment is an asset
- High school diploma or equivalent, preferred
- High school level reading, math, writing and comprehension skills
- Must be able to understand and follow processing, safety, and quality guidelines written in English
- Must have or be able to obtain forklift operators permit
- Must be able to work in a team-oriented environment
- Must be able to process extensive amounts of documentation legibly
- Physically able to lift 50 lbs (22.7 kg)
- Must successfully complete annual fit testing and medical clearance for respirator use when required
- Clean-shaven requirement when wearing a respirator
- Ability to work around powder, heavy equipment, cleaning chemicals, hazardous materials, and restricted movement in a loud manufacturing environment
