About the role
- Grading Project Supervisor managing construction contract administration and field teams for BC municipal and transportation projects. Emphasizing safety and quality in a collaborative environment.
Responsibilities
- Act as Ministry Representative and lead construction contract administration on assigned projects
- Oversee contractor performance, ensuring compliance with contract documents, specifications, safety, quality, and environmental requirements
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise day labour construction forces, including hiring labour, equipment, and materials
- Manage project budgets, including estimating, tracking, forecasting costs, and certifying quantities for payment
- Chair and document preconstruction and construction meetings and prepare regular project status and expenditure reports
- Resolve or assist in resolving construction claims, disputes, and contentious issues in collaboration with project managers and clients
- Ensure quality management systems are implemented, including quality control, quality assurance, and auditing activities
- Direct and mentor field staff and consultants, fostering a collaborative and safety-focused team environment
- Maintain accurate project documentation, diaries, records, and as-built/red-line drawings
- Understand and comply with the Binnie Safety Program and all applicable safety policies, procedures, and regulations
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, Transportation, or Construction Engineering with a minimum of two years of related experience; OR a technical diploma with a minimum of four years of related experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Extensive experience supervising field staff and managing construction contracts and resources
- Proven experience delivering complex highway or transportation infrastructure construction projects
- Strong knowledge of Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MOTT) Standard Specifications and contract administration practices
- Demonstrated experience managing multi-million-dollar construction budgets and schedules
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and contract documents
- Strong conflict resolution, communication, and stakeholder management skills
- Working knowledge of quality management systems and construction inspection practices
- Solid understanding of construction surveying, quantities, and digital terrain models (Civil 3D / CAiCE considered an asset)
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent desktop productivity tools
- Willing and able to work outdoors in variable weather conditions, travel throughout British Columbia, and work away from home as project requirements dictate
- Valid driver’s license
