Mainframe Application Developer at BMO, focusing on mainframe technologies and software design. Aiding in the financial services development team with application support and performance improvement.

Responsibilities

understand BMO Mainframe environment and strategic goals and advocate for our mainframe technologies
assess impact of design decisions to the solution/product/service being developed
recommend alternate/creative solutions for mitigation/optimization if required
assess costs and benefits for different solutions and recommend/decide on appropriate designs
identify opportunities to strengthen development capability, such as sharing expertise to promote technical development, mentoring employees, building communities of practice and networks
devise new algorithms and data structures for target environment and platform attributes in alignment with architectural patterns
recommend or automate approaches to streamline and integrate technological processes and/or systems to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness
build effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders and ensure alignment
interact with key business & technology stakeholders to define, analyze, and deliver requirements that reflect the needs of both the business and end-customers
monitor and track code and application performance, and address any issues

3+ years of experience with IBM mainframe technologies and languages such as; COBOL, z/OS, CICS, PL/1, TSO, DB2, VSAM, JCL, etc
working understanding of ZOS connect APIs and interaction with Mainframe systems
knowledge of IBM HLASM is beneficial
knowledge of batch and online processes within a financial system
knowledge of automation using IBM tools in either Dev or QA capacity
knowledge or related experience working in a mainframe development or production environment
knowledge of software development practices, concepts, and technology obtained through formal training and/or work experience
knowledge of Mainframe programming languages like COBOL, PL1, assembler and can code with little oversight
understanding functional aspects and technical behavior of the underlying operating system, development environment, and deployment practices
deep knowledge and technical proficiency gained through extensive education and business experience
