About the role

  • Cold Regions Engineer for BMT supporting engineering services in northern climates. Involves assessments, client interactions, and project management in challenging environments.

Responsibilities

  • Support growth and execution of engineering services for BMT clients with interests and assets that operate in northern/cold weather climates.
  • Complete ice bearing capacity and structural engineering assessments for municipal, provincial/territorial and the mining / energy sectors
  • Complete client process reviews, site inspections and audits
  • Deliver / present training and project results
  • Support development of engineering task proposals including the development of technical approach descriptions and level of effort estimates for engineering tasks
  • Employ MS Excel and/or Matlab to complete engineering calculations
  • Document engineering analysis tasks in project reports
  • Develop and grow familiarity with applicable engineering tools, codes and standards or related technologies
  • Contribute to growing the ice engineering body of knowledge and improving industry acceptance of ice engineering best practices
  • Understand and communicate climate change effects and adaptation strategies in northern contexts:
  • Use technical expertise and modelling tools to evaluate risk and mitigation for relevant hazards
  • Quantify and communicate impacts and their relevance to government and private clients
  • Contribute to site-based environmental review,
  • Project manage a range of projects with a high degree of oversight and planning, ensuring projects are executed to time and budget constraints and to client satisfaction.
  • Liaise with clients, potential and current, for the purposes of service delivery

Requirements

  • An undergraduate degree in Engineering (Civil or Environmental) and able to achieve Canadian professional engineer licensing.
  • Excellent written and oral communication in English
  • Proficient user of the Microsoft 365 suite of products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Task Boards, Teams)
  • Proficiency at using Apps within Teams
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Experience managing projects and labour resources
  • Demonstrated team participation
  • Project Management certifications.
  • Experience using hydrodynamic modelling tools or other modelling software
  • Experience with industry project management tools and software
  • Bilingual (French) and able to pass proficiency test for professional engineer licensing in Quebec.
  • Experience in oil and gas, ice engineering, or physical infrastructure management.
  • Business Development and bid capture experience.
  • Knowledge of smart grid and green energy business sectors.
  • Experience in product development
  • The ability to obtain Canadian security clearance
  • Road construction experience.
