About the role
- Senior Product Design Engineer building Cal.com’s open scheduling infrastructure and production-ready product components. Improving coss ui through accessible, motion-conscious design engineering.
Responsibilities
- Own core product surfaces end to end, including booking flows, scheduling primitives, and team and enterprise surfaces
- Build and test working prototypes in code using tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, and v0
- Hand off production-ready primitives that product engineers can use directly across Cal.com's product surfaces
- Design, build, and own custom components
- Improve coss ui by auditing existing components, closing gaps, refining primitives, and adding new components
- Maintain design-system consistency across tokens, spacing, states, dark mode, and motion
- Apply motion with intent and restraint
- Own outcomes from hypothesis and success definition through implementation and results analysis
- Ensure accessibility through keyboard paths, focus management, semantics, contrast, and motion preferences
- Refine empty states, error copy, loading behavior, and motion details
- Collaborate openly with the Head of Product and Design Engineer, sharing early work and incorporating critique
- Document thinking through written documents, Looms, and prototypes
Requirements
- Product designer with substantial evolution into design engineering
- Experience owning complex, ambiguous product areas from problem framing through launch and iteration
- Strong HTML, CSS, TypeScript, and React skills
- Ability to build and own custom design-engineered components without relying on third-party libraries
- Deep expertise in headless primitive composition, such as Base UI, Radix, or similar
- Strong grasp of UI motion design principles, including easing, timing, and choreography
- Daily use of AI tooling such as Claude Code, Cursor, and v0
- Deep familiarity with web standards and browser platform primitives
- Experience building and maintaining design systems
- Knowledge of WCAG, ARIA, assistive technology, and accessibility judgment
- Understanding of APIs, data models, state, and architectural constraints
- Strong written communication
- Collaborative, autonomous, async working style
- Open-source contributions and publicly available side projects are a bonus
- Familiarity with Cal.com, scheduling, calendaring, time zones, and recurrence rules is a bonus
- Working knowledge of locale- and time-aware APIs such as Intl.DateTimeFormat is a bonus
