About the role
- Senior software engineer building Chainguard’s secure container images, registry, and developer tooling. Shipping customer-facing infrastructure for open-source software supply-chain security.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and ship features and services for Chainguard Containers from design through production and initial customer use
- Own scope, sequencing, trade-offs, and delivery decisions
- Work with AI coding agents in building, reviewing, and operating software
- Investigate problems across services, customer calls, support tickets, and go-to-market data
- Maintain system health through observability, on-call, and corrective fixes
- Write design notes, pull request descriptions, and status updates
- Build hardened container images, registry services, build systems, distribution capabilities, and adoption tooling
- Collaborate directly with Product Managers, customers, and a small end-to-end project team
Requirements
- 3+ years building and operating software used by paying customers
- High agency and urgency
- Judgment on trade-offs
- Systems thinking across build pipelines, registries, and customer clusters
- Daily use of agentic coding tools and ability to demonstrate their impact
- Comfort with ambiguity
- Strong fundamentals in a systems language, preferably Go
- Experience with API design, databases and caching
- Experience with cloud infrastructure on GCP or AWS
- Working knowledge of containers, container registries, OCI image format, and Kubernetes
- Excellent written English
- Experience working on a distributed, remote-first team
- No visa sponsorship or relocation provided
