About the role

  • Managing Director scaling renewable tax credit underwriting for Crux, a clean-energy capital platform. Leading transaction diligence, buyer relationships, underwriting policies, and a growing expert team.

Responsibilities

  • Lead early reviews of potential renewable tax credit transactions and assess underwriting package completeness
  • Collaborate with project developers to gather required information and documentation
  • Oversee and evaluate diligence memorandums for clean energy tax credits and regulatory compliance
  • Maintain deep knowledge of transaction structuring, clean energy tax credit rules, and regulations to inform underwriting decisions
  • Formulate comprehensive underwriting policies by credit type
  • Build and scale a high-performing team of underwriting principals and senior managers
  • Mentor and develop junior talent and foster subject-matter expertise
  • Lead initiatives to improve underwriting processes using technology and tools with product engineering, legal, and marketing teams
  • Analyze financial, technical, and legal documents and project feasibility to determine credit eligibility
  • Review tax credit insurance policies for adequate risk mitigation
  • Conduct risk assessments for potential credit-claim issues
  • Prepare detailed credit approval or denial reports and recommendations
  • Develop long-term relationships with tax and finance leaders at major F250 tax credit buyers
  • Build new relationships through conferences, networking, outreach, partnerships, and inbound opportunities
  • Represent the company as a market expert through webinars and conference panels

Requirements

  • 14+ years of experience in financial services, renewable energy, or comparable experience
  • Renewable energy project finance, banking, or Big Four background preferred
  • Strong understanding of the Inflation Reduction Act, related IRS tax codes, renewable energy, underwriting, and risk management
  • Detailed knowledge of renewable energy project underwriting, including equipment and performance review
  • Baseline understanding of U.S. energy markets, regulatory structures, physical and synthetic power agreements and derivatives, and renewables-focused regional incentives
  • Well-developed analytical skills and ability to simplify complex problems
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills
  • Project management experience and desire to build a new initiative and lead a team at a growing company
  • Ability to collaborate across commercial and technology teams
  • Strong relationship-building skills and ability to build trust quickly
  • Willingness to travel 25%
  • FINRA SIE, Series 79, and Series 63 required, or willingness to obtain under Crux’s broker-dealer sponsorship
  • Willingness to contribute to and help build team culture
  • Interest in a rapid-growth environment with autonomy and flexibility
