Senior Data Engineer supporting the Government of Alberta’s Data Management Platform. Building, monitoring, and modernizing Talend integrations, ETL/ELT pipelines, APIs, and data services.
About the role
- Senior Data Engineer building Dandy’s data infrastructure for its technology-powered dental operating system. Developing pipelines, governed data products, and AI-ready platform capabilities.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate ingestion pipelines and connectors such as Fivetran, dbt, and BigQuery
- Reliably land data from disparate source systems into the warehouse
- Own and evolve dbt models, the semantic layer, data quality/observability, and orchestration
- Power BI tools and internal analytics applications
- Partner with Finance, GTM, Manufacturing, and ML stakeholders to translate business needs into governed, self-serve data products
- Extend the platform to support AI and agent-based workflows, including governed data access, LLM/agent-usable semantic layers, and safety guardrails at scale
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in a data engineering, data platform, or SQL-heavy analytics engineering role
- Track record of building data ingestion pipelines, connectors, and transformation workflows in production
- Expert-level SQL
- Working fluency in Python or a similar language for platform tooling and automation
- Hands-on exposure to Looker, Hex, dbt, and/or equivalent BI/analytics tooling
- Ability to work across teams to gather requirements and drive consensus on data platform decisions
- Track record of standing up new data engineering processes through ambiguity
- Willingness to fix problems hands-on
- Intellectual curiosity and strong troubleshooting instincts
- Exposure to healthcare or other regulated, compliance-heavy environments is a bonus
- Experience building infrastructure supporting ML/AI workflows or agentic, LLM-powered products is a bonus
- Experience building pipelines with compliance handling for PHI/PII data, particularly in healthcare, is a bonus
- Legally entitled to work in Canada
- Fluency in spoken and written English
