About the role
- Staff Software Engineer owning ingestion and integration architecture for Northbeam’s marketing intelligence platform. Setting data-processing standards across ad, commerce, and real-time event systems.
Responsibilities
- Own the architecture of the ingestion and integration platform, setting patterns for onboarding new data sources
- Define technical direction for event-driven and batch processing across the company
- Make build/buy and migration decisions
- Establish standards for observability, data freshness, and failure handling
- Lead design across data engineering, infrastructure, and product teams
- Provide design review, mentorship, and hands-on coding to elevate engineers
- Identify unscoped platform problems, advocate for solutions, and drive them to completion
- Work across integrations and transformations involving ad platforms, order management systems, and real-time event collection
Requirements
- 8+ years of software or data engineering experience, including significant time owning the architecture of large-scale ingestion, ETL, or integration platforms
- Deep proficiency in Python
- Strong SQL and cloud data warehouse experience (BigQuery or equivalent)
- Experience designing API-based ETL systems at scale, including REST, GraphQL, webhooks, authentication, and multi-tenancy concerns
- Production depth with orchestration (Airflow or similar)
- Production depth with containerized infrastructure (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Demonstrated technical leadership, including setting direction, aligning engineers who do not report to you, and improving team development practices
- Experience mentoring engineers and elevating engineering practice across a team or organization
- Sound judgment about investing in platform durability versus shipping and moving on
- Bonus: Detailed understanding of OAuth 2.0, API keys, secrets management, and secure multi-tenant architectures
- Bonus: Experience with ERP systems, CRMs, CDPs, or complex enterprise data tools and APIs
- Bonus: Exposure to event-driven architectures and real-time data processing tools
- Bonus: Knowledge of data governance, GDPR, SOC2, and security best practices for sensitive data
