About the role

  • Process Engineer working on environmental and sustainable development projects at Domtar. Responsible for optimizing operations and improving processes in the Windsor plant.

Responsibilities

  • Design, plan and monitor projects specific to operations departments (pulping department, steam/recovery, paper machines or others)
  • Contribute to process improvements while aiming to reduce costs
  • Participate in optimizing equipment operation
  • Provide technical support for capital projects, equipment selection and new chemicals
  • Perform on-call duties
  • Establish collaboration and maintain communication with the technical services team and internal customers
  • Execute department-specific projects and trials in operations (design, planning, identification of monitoring indicators; training, commissioning, optimization and performance evaluation)
  • Ensure daily monitoring of the department’s operational and environmental parameters and statistics (daily and monthly) and participate in tracking and resolving day-to-day operational issues
  • Explain deviations and implement corrective actions
  • Develop and/or fine-tune new operating procedures
  • Maintain and ensure the effectiveness of the energy management system (ISO 50001)
  • Lead continuous improvement activities aimed at reducing process variability
  • Improve operating strategies based on analysis of critical process variables using various tools.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or Biotechnology Engineering
  • P.Eng. license or membership in the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ)
  • Recent graduate or candidate with a few years of experience
  • Leadership skills and strong communicator; promotes teamwork
  • Agile and solution-oriented; encourages and supports change
  • Detail-oriented in follow-up of work; fosters a learning environment.
