About the role

Intern supporting AI-based software development for marine engineering research on ice-loads prediction. Collaborating with global teams at ABS HET&DRC in St. John's, NL.

Responsibilities

Conduct literature review on AI and Machine Learning (ML) based ice-loads prediction methods.
Assist in the design and development of an AI-based solver for ice-loads calculation.
Assist in the processing, visualization, and interpretation of engineering datasets.
Write optimized and efficient code in Python/C++.
Assist in the testing, validation, and benchmarking of AI models.
Maintain organized project files, including datasets, code, and documentation.
Participate in regular project meetings.
Collaborate with the ABS HET&DRC engineering team and ABS engineers around the world.
Work independently under the guidance of the project supervisor.

A Graduate (Master's) or undergraduate student with a background in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a similar field.
Substantial experience in developing and implementing code.
Proficiency in Python is required. Experience with C++ is preferred.
Experience with ML frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn) is preferred.
Self-driven and able to work independently while collaborating with the HET&DRC team.

Exposure to real-world applications of AI and Machine Learning in the marine engineering industry.
Hands-on experience in the development of an AI-based ice load solver.
Knowledge and experience in training, validation, and deployment of AI models.
Knowledge and experience in visualization and statistical analysis of engineering data.
Use of advanced programming concepts to optimize code for engineering applications.
Experience in collaborating with a multidisciplinary engineering team.
Exposure to the professional work environment within a globally recognized company.
