About the role

  • Residential Mortgage Underwriter managing mortgage applications and commitments for Equitable Bank. Ensuring compliance while delivering top-notch service in a dynamic banking environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assessing all new mortgage applications
  • Issuing mortgage commitments
  • Collecting required documentation
  • Taking the file to the solicitor instruction stage in a timely and prudent manner
  • Ensuring efficiency while using sound lending judgment
  • Following up with brokers daily on issued mortgage commitments
  • Reviewing documentation for accuracy and legitimacy with an emphasis on AML and ATF requirements
  • Striving for compliance with the Company’s and the mortgage default insurers’ established policies and procedures
  • Assisting the team with reporting, file management, and data integrity
  • Managing deal flow to meet prescribed deadlines and SLAs
  • Providing high levels of internal and external customer service
  • Developing strong broker relationships

Requirements

  • 2+ years’ mortgage experience in the prime and/or alternative mortgage market
  • Sound thinker with the ability to multi-task
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Sound knowledge of AML & ATF practices
  • Established and meticulous organizational skills
  • Excellent time management, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to make decisions under pressure
  • Proven ability to thrive in a constantly changing environment and to perform well in a high volume, high intensity environment
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills with the ability to respond in a clear, concise and professional manner
  • Displays pride in providing superb customer service
  • Proficiency in MS Office (mainly MS Word and Excel)
  • Completion of a post-secondary degree preferably in a financial field
  • Knowledge of fraud risk in the mortgage industry and the ability to address concerns relating to suspected misrepresentation is required
  • Bilingual in English and French.
