About the role
- Senior Engineer in Agrifood Processes at EXP, optimizing and implementing industrial solutions. Collaborating closely with leading clients in the agrifood sector for measurable impact.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop and optimize industrial processes in an agrifood environment (processing, mixing, pasteurization, packaging, etc.), from conceptual study through to production startup.
- Develop process designs that meet sanitary requirements, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and applicable food safety standards.
- Develop and review process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), ensuring consistency with performance, quality and operational criteria.
- Perform mass and energy balances, define production capacities and contribute to optimizing yields and production line efficiency.
- Conduct risk assessments to ensure the health, safety and compliance of operations and facilities.
- Select, size and specify process equipment (tanks, heat exchangers, pumps, dosing systems, etc.) and process utilities (process water, compressed air, etc.) according to client needs and operational constraints.
- Prepare technical deliverables, design bases, specifications, drawings and bills of materials, engineering reports and process optimization recommendations.
- Participate in design reviews and coordinate with related disciplines (mechanical, electrical, automation/instrumentation, quality).
- Support procurement activities by validating vendor submissions, reviewing shop drawings and ensuring equipment compliance with project requirements.
- Contribute to project planning, cost estimating and technical follow-up with clients and stakeholders.
- Provide on-site support during critical phases: installation, commissioning, qualification and start-up of processes.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in food engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering or another relevant discipline related to industrial or agrifood processes.
- Member in good standing of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ).
- 10+ years of relevant experience in engineering consulting, ideally within the agrifood sector.
- Strong knowledge of agrifood industry standards and practices (CFIA, FDA, GFSI).
- Solid process design skills, with strong analytical and synthesis abilities and an aptitude for understanding complex concepts.
- Excellent command of French, both spoken and written.
- Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle for occasional client visits.
- Excellent communication, collaboration and influencing skills, enabling effective mobilization of multidisciplinary teams and internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong results orientation, action focus and problem-solving ability in dynamic, demanding environments while maintaining high standards of quality and compliance.
