About the role

  • Director of Engineering helping build and execute Felix's engineering vision with a focus on AI-powered tools. Overseeing a 32-developer team to maximize code quality and speed.

Responsibilities

  • Spearhead the strategy for maximizing velocity, quality, and maintainability of code developed by the team, primarily utilizing Claude Code and the latest LLMs for software development.
  • Define and optimize workflows, tooling, and processes to ensure the developer team pushes the envelope on build speed and quality in an AI-augmented environment.
  • Mentor and inspire our development team by providing architectural, technical, and AI-development best-practice guidance.
  • Design, implement and monitor all operations and key performance indicators, including metrics and operational efficiency, from the engineering team.
  • Create and execute successful technological strategies that reflect and are aligned with the vision and mission of Felix.
  • Collaborate closely with our SVP Engineering, Product and Ops teams, helping set strategic initiatives.
  • Continue to build our amazing Engineering team through the recruitment of top engineering talent.

Requirements

  • Has 5+ years of leadership experience in software engineering.
  • Proven, hands-on experience integrating and managing large teams (30+ developers) that are using AI-powered code generation tools to significantly enhance development speed and quality.
  • Deep understanding of the opportunities and challenges in an AI-augmented software development lifecycle (SDLC), including code review best practices, prompt engineering for development, and maximizing throughput with code-generating models.
  • Demonstrates the ability to build cohesive, high-performing and healthy teams and has proven relationship management and leadership skills—they don’t shy away from challenging or difficult conversations.
  • Effectively manages diverse, simultaneous projects of varying complexities and is an experienced project manager, problem solver and change manager.
  • Understands the importance of effective collaboration and can get people on board with their ideas.
