About the role
- Solution Architect optimizing Java, IBM i, and DB2 performance for Fresche Solutions’ digital transformation projects. Designing scalable solutions and leading architecture across legacy and modern enterprise environments.
Responsibilities
- Own the technical solution throughout the full project lifecycle
- Assess and optimize application and system performance across Java, IBM i/AS400, and DB2 environments
- Analyze performance bottlenecks across application, database, operating-system, and infrastructure layers
- Recommend and implement strategies to improve responsiveness, throughput, resource utilization, scalability, and stability
- Review Java application behavior, including memory utilization, garbage collection, threading, connection management, and application-server performance
- Evaluate IBM i system performance, workload management, job activity, CPU and memory consumption, subsystem configuration, and resource utilization
- Assess DB2 performance, including query execution, indexing, access paths, SQL efficiency, locking, database configuration, and workload behavior
- Research technical options to inform solution architecture and modernization strategies
- Architect solutions spanning Java, PHP, IBM i, DB2, and other relevant technologies
- Translate business and technical requirements into scalable, maintainable, and supportable solution designs
- Lead technical discovery sessions, architecture workshops, and solution-design discussions
- Present, explain, and defend architectural recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Produce architecture documentation, technical specifications, diagrams, recommendations, and implementation roadmaps
- Collaborate with development, infrastructure, database, delivery, and client teams
- Champion architecture standards, development tools, performance-monitoring tools, and delivery best practices
- Serve as a senior technical escalation point during discovery, development, testing, deployment, and production support
- Balance modernization objectives with complex legacy and mission-critical environments
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field
- 12+ years of hands-on experience designing and architecting large-scale, web-based enterprise systems
- Demonstrated experience as a Solution Architect, Technical Architect, or senior application architect
- Expert-level web application development experience using Java, PHP, or comparable enterprise application platforms
- Strong experience diagnosing and resolving complex application and system performance issues
- Hands-on knowledge of Java performance optimization, including JVM behavior, memory management, garbage collection, threading, application servers, and application profiling
- Experience assessing performance within IBM i, iSeries, or AS400 environments
- Strong understanding of DB2 performance optimization, including SQL tuning, indexing, query plans, access paths, locking, and database workload analysis
- Ability to investigate performance issues across application code, database, operating system, middleware, and infrastructure
- Experience designing solutions for complex, integrated, and business-critical application environments
- Strong technical documentation, presentation, and stakeholder-management skills
- Ability to communicate and defend technical decisions with clients, development teams, and senior stakeholders
- Ability to manage competing priorities and provide architectural leadership across multiple projects simultaneously
- Preferred: experience with RPG applications and IBM i modernization initiatives
- Preferred: experience modernizing or integrating legacy IBM i applications with Java, PHP, APIs, web applications, or cloud-based platforms
- Preferred: familiarity with IBM i performance-monitoring and diagnostic tools
- Preferred: experience with application profiling, database monitoring, capacity planning, and performance-testing tools
- Preferred: knowledge of cloud, hybrid-cloud, containerized, or distributed application architectures
- Preferred: experience in consulting, professional services, or client-facing delivery environments
