Senior Electrical Substation Project Engineer leading substation design and project execution at GE Vernova. Collaborating across teams and ensuring compliance with quality standards and regulations.
Responsibilities
Act as the project’s technical leader/lead engineer: develop the project specifications/statement of work, plan schedules and budgets, and oversee engineering activities and deliverables.
Provide technical leadership and collaborate with tender/bid teams, cost estimators, partners, clients, GE teams (product engineering, EHS, quality, project management) and engineering subcontractors.
Be responsible for the design of all activities in accordance with applicable codes and standards, including GE Grid Solutions policies and procedures, within scheduled timelines and budgets and to a high standard of quality.
Maintain in-depth knowledge of substation equipment and related disciplines (AIS & GIS, circuit breakers, transformers, disconnectors/isolators, busbar design, protection & control (P&C), high-voltage equipment).
Basic civil engineering knowledge required.
In collaboration with engineering teams, design or supervise the design of utility and industrial substations: single-line diagrams, general arrangements/layouts, specifications, outdoor equipment installation, building arrangements, auxiliary power systems, routing/tray/conduit design and all associated studies/calculations.
Develop and implement an effective tracking process to measure progress of engineering activities, on-time delivery of deliverables, and management of client comments.
Manage technical risk: define and implement design strategy, organize and lead design reviews and safety reviews.
Identify, track and mitigate risks.
Use critical judgment to resolve complex technological or engineering problems.
Act as a resource for less-experienced colleagues; explain complex or sensitive concepts and facilitate consensus.
Develop influencing skills to mobilize the project team, clients and stakeholders.
Identify, report and propose corrective actions in the event of major scope, budget or schedule deviations.
Develop processes and procedures to improve quality and productivity.
Requirements
University degree in engineering.
Minimum 15 years of relevant experience.
Hold a professional engineer license issued by the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) and be willing to review and seal engineering documents in accordance with Quebec regulations.
Commitment to obtain and maintain the professional engineer (P.Eng./ing.) designation.
Legally authorized to work in Canada; any job offer is conditional on successful pre-employment verification.
Bilingual (French/English) – spoken and written.
Ability and willingness to travel up to 20% of the time, including internationally, and comply with company travel and tax policies.
