About the role

  • Ingénieur en géotechnique sismique à GHD pour planifier et réaliser des analyses liées aux effets sismiques. Collaborer avec des équipes internationales sur des projets complexes.

Responsibilities

  • Data collection and analysis: Perform dynamic and pseudo‑static analyses including soil‑structure interaction; participate in supplementary investigation campaigns for elements related to seismic geotechnical engineering and soil liquefaction.
  • Geotechnical studies and interpretations: Conduct site seismic response analyses and liquefaction potential assessments.
  • Knowledge management: Collaborate with GHD seismic experts in Western North America, Chile, New Zealand, the Philippines, and elsewhere to share knowledge and enhance value.
  • Data interpretation and numerical analyses: Develop and interpret numerical models and use specialized software such as Plaxis, FLAC, RSSeismic, DeepSoil, OpenQuake, Dyna6, or equivalents.
  • Capacity building: Contribute to innovation, practice development, and knowledge sharing.
  • Technical reporting: Prepare, review, and approve technical reports and calculation notes.
  • Research: Respond to requests for information regarding research activities to support others or meet role requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, or Mining Engineering.
  • Master's degree or PhD in Geotechnical Engineering, Seismic Engineering, Geostructures, or a related field (an asset).
  • Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ).
  • 5 to 10 years of relevant experience, including a minimum of 3 years in seismic geotechnical engineering.
  • Experience with RSSeismic, DeepSoil, or equivalent software.
  • Good understanding of the seismic character of eastern Canada, soil‑structure interaction (damping, impedance, isolation), mitigation measures (ground improvement), and mechanisms related to seismic geotechnics (lateral spreading, post‑liquefaction settlements, cyclic mobility, dilatant behavior, hysteretic behavior, cyclic softening, etc.).
  • Understanding of the interpretation of in‑situ and laboratory test results used in seismic geotechnics, such as geophysical surveys (borehole logging, MASW, MHVSR, refraction, etc.), seismic CPTu (sCPTu), SPT energy measurements, cyclic DSS, triaxial tests, etc.
  • Experience in 2D and/or 3D dynamic numerical modelling (Plaxis, FLAC) and knowledge of advanced constitutive models is considered a major asset.
  • Knowledge of probabilistic seismic hazard analysis (PSHA) using sixth‑generation models and software such as OpenQuake and/or Dyna6 (asset).
  • Good knowledge of key references in seismic geotechnical engineering and applicable North American codes (CFEM, NBC, CSA, FEMA, NIST, AASHTO, ASCE, FHWA, etc.).
  • Experience with different types of geostructures such as foundations for buildings, bridge foundations, marine structures, dams (hydropower, tailings dams or others), earth‑retaining civil structures, etc.
  • Strong interest in advancing the industry, innovation, participation in research projects, and publishing.
  • Practical, client‑value‑driven approach.
  • Bilingualism in French and English is an asset.
