About the role

  • System Architect defining Brake and Thermal HIL architecture for General Motors vehicle controls. Leading real-time simulation, embedded-controller integration, and cross-functional engineering initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Define and communicate the architecture vision and multi-year roadmap for Brake and Thermal HIL capabilities.
  • Define requirements and acceptance criteria for model fidelity, deterministic real-time execution, latency, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Provide technical direction for real-time plant-model strategies covering brake, chassis, vehicle-motion, suspension, thermal-management, HVAC, and heat-pump systems.
  • Guide integration of models and HIL environments with embedded controllers, control software, calibration tools, vehicle and subsystem hardware, electrical interfaces, and CAN, CAN FD, LIN, and automotive Ethernet networks.
  • Lead resolution of difficult technical issues spanning modeling, controls, embedded software, communications, electrical and mechanical interfaces, real-time platforms, and laboratory apparatus.
  • Partner with product management, software teams, hardware design-release teams, and test users to ensure delivered environments are fit for purpose.
  • Improve robustness, usability, maintainability, documentation, operational readiness, and safe use of HIL benches and supporting assets.
  • Lead large, ambiguous, and technically challenging initiatives across multiple engineering disciplines and organizational boundaries.
  • Mentor engineers, grow technical capability, and promote knowledge sharing and reuse.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Typically 10 or more years of relevant engineering experience, including substantial experience with HIL, real-time simulation, embedded controls, or complex mechatronic test environments.
  • Recognized expertise in brake controls, chassis controls, propulsion thermal management, real-time simulation, or HIL architecture.
  • Experience defining architecture, technical roadmaps, system interfaces, non-functional requirements, acceptance criteria, and verification and validation strategies for complex engineering solutions.
  • Success leading large, ambiguous, and technically difficult initiatives across multiple disciplines and organizational boundaries.
  • Strong experience with MATLAB/Simulink and real-time simulation platforms such as dSPACE SCALEXIO.
  • Strong understanding of plant-model development, calibration, model correlation, real-time execution, closed-loop simulation, and integration with embedded controllers and representative hardware.
  • Working knowledge of CAN/CAN FD, LIN, automotive Ethernet, and related engineering tools.
  • Familiarity with system safety, functional taxonomy and control architecture.
  • Experience with Python, MATLAB, C/C++, or equivalent languages.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and executive communication skills, with the ability to influence technical direction across teams.
  • GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship; candidates must not require GM immigration sponsorship now or in the future.

Benefits

  • Paid time off including vacation days, holidays, and supplemental benefits for pregnancy, parental and adoption leave.
  • Healthcare, dental and vision benefits including health care spending account and wellness incentive.
  • Life insurance plans to cover you and your family.
  • Company and matching contributions to a Defined Contribution Pension plan.
  • GM Vehicle Purchase Plan for you, your family, and friends.
