About the role

  • Intermediate or Senior Underwriter supporting the Financial Institutions team for Canada’s largest P&C insurer. Analyzing risks and underwriting specialty solutions for Financial Institutions.

Responsibilities

  • Has underwriting responsibility for a book of new and renewal business.
  • Analyze requests for quotes.
  • Executes underwriting strategy as determined by management including decisions to accept, decline or modify risks.
  • Develops superior relationships with producers to successfully promote achievement of mutual operating goals and supply appropriate products and services.
  • Participate in broker visits, insurance industry functions and marketing events in support of broker relationship development.
  • Participates in account management, planning and marketing meetings to best position the business for the future.
  • Collaborates with team members to manage work inventories and all production activities to provide accurate and timely service in accordance with business unit standards.
  • Processes underwriting decisions.
  • Documents files and reports via automated desktop systems and tools.
  • Collaborate on growth initiatives and relations with the brokerage network.
  • Participate and collaborate in the development of new products or improvement of existing products and forms that support the objectives of growth and profitability of the company.
  • Provide creative solutions on how to improve the department and increase efficiencies.

Requirements

  • minimum 2 years for intermediate and 4 years for senior role in D&O, Professional Liability, and/or Financial Institution Bonds and ancillary lines underwriting experience preferred, with familiarity with underwriting Financial Institutions preferable.
  • Certified Insurance Professional (CIP) Designation (or in the process of completing Designation) preferred.
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to work towards achieving company goals and adapt to changes and a fast pace of work – including learning new products and forms.
  • Have initiative and autonomy while integrating into teamwork.
  • Good work ethic, ability to think proactively.
  • Relationship builder understanding the importance of cultivating trusting relationships.
  • Team builder understanding the importance of being engaged and committed to the success of the Financial Institutions Team at Intact.
  • Knowing how to get out of habitual thought patterns and take responsibility.
  • Be ready to collaborate with teams across Canada and the United States.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Undergraduate university degree or any relevant equivalent experience.
  • Bilingual (French and English), spoken and written is an asset.
