About the role
- Director of Engineering leading Web and Mobile engineering for GB Member Experiences at Manulife. Focused on shaping engineering culture and technical strategy across platforms.
Responsibilities
- Lead the Full GB Member Experience Engineering Organization
- Build a high-performance team rooted in ownership and engineering excellence
- Coach engineering leaders and engineers on architecture and modern engineering practices
- Define and implement the engineering vision for the Member Web Portal and native apps
- Make informed technical decisions in architecture, performance, and platform evolution
- Drive excellence in native iOS and Android development, testing, and quality
- Influence across the organization, representing Engineering in business discussions
Requirements
- Minimum 5+ years of experience leading engineering managers and senior engineers
- Hands-on engineering expertise in Web architecture (React, Node.js, TypeScript, GraphQL)
- Native mobile engineering expertise (Kotlin, Swift)
- API design, system performance, resilience, and observability knowledge
- Expertise with cloud platforms (Azure preferred), CI/CD, test automation, and DevOps or equivalent experience
- Proven track record in delivering high-scale, customer-facing digital experiences
