Part-time Civil Inspector ensuring quality control in water and liquid waste construction projects. Collaborating with contractors and monitoring compliance in the Lower Mainland area.
Responsibilities
Provide Quality Control/Quality Assurance inspections on work conducted by external contractors for large construction projects
Provide supervision of contracted testing and inspection firms for survey and soils and engineered fills, asphalt, concrete, reinforcing steel, welding, painting/coating, miscellaneous fabrication, steel pipe supply and other materials.
Attend pre-construction meetings and other project meetings as necessary
Inspect all work done and material supplied to assure compliance with the contract documents, which may extend to any or all parts of the work
Monitor the quality of work undertaken and identify deficiencies in materials and workmanship
Maintain photographic record of inspected works
Document results of the inspection, in summary form, on a Daily Inspection Report
Inform the Project Engineer/Manager of any non-conformance to the contract documents
Take as-constructed field measurements and red-line construction prints for the purpose of record drawings
Maintain an effective working relationship with the Client, Contractors, and other agencies
Consult the Project Engineer/Manager to discuss any issues and concerns with the Contractors’ work
Communicate relevant inspection and project information to the Project Engineer/Manager, operations personnel, and other key project personnel
Abide by the Client’s or contractor’s safety program and WorkSafe BC Regulations and report unsafe activities to the responsible supervisor.
Perform other related duties as required for each specific project.
Requirements
Diploma or Certificate in Civil Engineering Technology and at least two years of progressive, directly related experience
Knowledge of engineering-related sub-professional practices, such as basic design, surveying, inspection, and construction, related to public utilities.
Good working knowledge and familiarity with standards, contract specifications and all materials utilized in the construction of water, sewer, and liquid waste projects. Prior knowledge of MMCD standards is preferred.
Familiarity with proper safety procedures and WCB requirements related to heavy civil construction
Able to read structural/civil/utility drawings (i.e., from other utilities) and interpret the information with respect to impact to design/construction drawings
Well-developed planning, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
Knowledge of MS Office applications and computer skills to use email and write summary reports
Well-developed communication, facilitation, negotiation, and interpersonal skills in English
Must already be in the Lower Mainland Area
Must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions on construction sites
A clean criminal record check
Valid BC Class 5 driver’s license
