About the role

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, enhance, and oversee the delivery of national training and professional development programs for lawyers as part of MT Academy.
  • Design and lead experiential learning retreats for targeted groups of lawyers.
  • Define learning objectives and select courses, content, and instructors.
  • Oversee retreat logistics, budgets, venue selection, and delivery in collaboration with stakeholders and vendors.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of retreats and programs to guide continuous improvement.
  • Design in-person, virtual, blended, simulation-based, assessment-based, and on-demand learning solutions.
  • Collaborate with leaders, managers, internal and external subject matter experts, and instructors.
  • Advise and support instructors on content, delivery methods, and instructional alignment.
  • Conduct needs assessments and identify performance gaps and skills needs.
  • Develop evaluation frameworks and metrics to measure program effectiveness and impact.
  • Lead and integrate AI-driven learning initiatives, including AI-assisted simulations, intelligent coaching tools, and adaptive platforms.
  • Transform client service delivery workflows into practical, scenario-based learning experiences.
  • Support partnerships with law schools and external AI literacy initiatives.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the MT Academy Coordinator, the direct report for this role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) or a bachelor’s degree combined with five years of experience developing and implementing training programs.
  • At least five years of experience designing, developing, and implementing professional training programs.
  • Experience practicing law or working with lawyers in a non-law-firm environment.
  • Strong experience designing, implementing, and managing professional development programs for legal professionals.
  • Demonstrated professional experience in instructional design and educational technologies.
  • Knowledge of adult learning theories and instructional design models, lesson planning, and curriculum development.
  • Strong proficiency with course-authoring software, visual design skills, and the ability to write instructional copy as well as audio and video scripts.
  • Proficiency with relevant instructional design technologies.
  • Experience in a law firm or other professional services organization is highly valued.
  • A certificate or training in instructional design is an asset (Articulate 360, Storyline, Rise).
  • Fluency in French is an asset.
  • High flexibility regarding lunch, start, and end times, as well as the ability to work evenings during peak periods.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and confidence presenting to groups.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work comfortably with lawyers, clients, and staff, both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong customer service orientation and the ability to solve problems independently and practically.
  • Strong initiative, exceptional organizational skills, and excellent time-management abilities.
  • Ability to work at a fast pace and manage multiple requests simultaneously under pressure.
  • Strong attention to accuracy and detail, along with good numerical skills.
