About the role

  • Water Resources Engineer focusing on urban drainage and surface water management projects for private and public clients. Collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams and regulatory agencies in Alberta, BC, and SK.

Responsibilities

  • Lead engineering analysis and design for urban drainage and surface water management projects, for both private and public clients.
  • Prepare conceptual, preliminary, and detailed designs of stormwater management ponds and wetlands, grey/green infrastructure, and erosion and sediment control practices.
  • Conduct specialized hydrologic and hydraulic modeling.
  • Hydrologic and hydraulic modeling of dual drainage systems (e.g., PCSWMM, etc.).
  • Complex stormwater pond analysis (e.g., dam breach modeling, water quality).
  • Detailed wetland water balance studies.
  • Support river engineering and environmental assessment tasks.
  • Prepare and/or review construction cost estimates and tender specifications.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, including hydrogeological, geotechnical, survey, landscape design, transportation, structural, mechanical, electrical, and natural sciences disciplines.
  • Direct and support field data collection exercises as well as data synthesis/analysis; including site reconnaissance and topographic surveying.
  • Provide technical support and mentoring to junior team members.
  • Prepare technical reports, technical memoranda, and work plans.
  • Support business development initiatives including preparing proposals and building strong client relationships.
  • Work with regulatory agencies to obtain approvals.
  • Willing to travel within Alberta, BC, and SK to support projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Water Resources, Environmental, or Civil Engineering.
  • A graduate degree would be considered an asset.
  • Five or more years of progressive experience in water resources engineering, with a primary focus on urban storm water management projects and municipal engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Professional Licensee (engineering) (P.L.Eng.) designation (or candidacy) with APEGA is required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in urban stormwater modeling software (e.g., PCSWMM, EPA SWMM, MIKE+, InfoWorks ICM, GeoSTORM) is required.
  • Experience with various other water resources modeling software (i.e., HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SWAT, HSP-F, EFDC) would be considered an asset.
  • Experience with preparing detailed designs, construction cost estimates, technical specifications, and tender/procurement packages.
  • Experience with Python, R, or VBA for data analysis and model automation would be considered an asset.
  • Experience with design and drafting software such as ArcGIS, Global Mapper, Q-GIS, AutoCAD, and Civil3D would be an asset.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of current regulations and legislation.
  • Experience in writing technical reports and proposals and giving presentations to multi-stakeholder groups.
  • A valid Class 5 driver’s license with no restrictions and a clean driving record.
