About the role
- Staff Software Engineer shaping reusable mobile, UI and backend architecture for Nu’s collections products. Enabling scalable, multi-market digital financial services across Latin America.
Responsibilities
- Define the target architecture across mobile experiences, UI infrastructure and backend services
- Lead the design of reusable UI infrastructure, including components, elements and foundational capabilities
- Establish contracts and integration patterns between mobile clients and backend services
- Work cross-team to guide IC leads and engineers through architectural decisions, dependencies and trade-offs
- Design scalable and flexible systems across geographies, supporting local variations while preserving shared foundations
- Drive longer-term solutions instead of optimizing only for immediate delivery needs
- Stay hands-on with architecture, technical reviews, prototypes, coding and complex problem-solving
- Communicate clearly, motivate teams and influence partners across the organization without formal authority
- Ensure communication across leading teams for effective collaboration
- Serve as a bridge between business areas and business units
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Staff-level Software Engineer or equivalent technical leader
- Strong experience across both mobile engineering and backend services
- Experience defining architecture and technical direction across multiple teams or domains
- Strong understanding of reusable UI infrastructure, component-based development, platform capabilities and reducing duplicated implementations
- Experience designing systems that support scalability, configurability and local variation across markets or products
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Strong leadership and influence skills, including mentoring engineers and guiding teams toward sustainable solutions
- Hands-on mindset and comfort operating in ambiguous, evolving environments
- Strong written and verbal English
- Experience in fintech, collections or other regulated domains is nice to have, but not required
- Experience building platforms for international or multi-market products is nice to have, but not required
- Legally authorized to work in the country where the position is located
