About the role
- On-Farm Research & Agronomy Coordinator supporting OSCIA’s sustainable Ontario agriculture programs. Coordinating field trials, farmer partnerships, sampling, data quality, and research reporting.
Responsibilities
- Support OSCIA’s applied on-farm agronomy field crop research programs, primarily the Living Lab – Ontario project
- Serve as the primary point of contact between OSCIA, farmer cooperators, and researcher partners
- Coordinate field-scale agronomic trials, including monitoring, drone seeding, satellite and NDVI imaging, soil sampling, profit mapping, and other research activities
- Coordinate and conduct seasonal field sampling activities
- Manage quality control of farm operation and soil health data
- Oversee and assist farmer cooperators with research trial design, setup, execution, and data collection
- Contribute to farm-specific carbon sequestration and GHG mitigation models in HOLOS, Agrisuite, and commercial software
- Support data management, performance tracking, reporting, and program deliverables
- Support knowledge translation and transfer of research outcomes to stakeholders and Ontario farmers
- Assist farmers and collaborators with invoice submissions
- Attend program meetings and document discussions and action items
- Maintain accurate documentation and records for reporting and compliance
- Collaborate with OSCIA staff, government staff, researchers, academic researchers, and ag-industry partners
- Support stakeholder and project-funder relationships
- Represent OSCIA and promote research programs at events and meetings
- Plan research meetings and promote positive farmer and researcher experiences
- Contribute to continuous improvement and process enhancements
Requirements
- Post-secondary degree in soil science, agronomy, crop science, or a related field
- 2–5 years of relevant industry experience; 2 years minimum
- Strong understanding of Ontario field crop production systems, seasonal farm operations, and agronomic management practices
- Practical agricultural experience and comfort working directly with Ontario farmers
- Experience with planting, nutrient management, harvest timing, cover crops, tillage systems, and soil fertility practices
- Strong understanding of farm operations and field-crop production practices
- Ability to calculate fertilizer rates and convert application rates to actual pounds applied
- Knowledge of planting dates and crop growth stages for corn, soybeans, wheat, and other common crops
- Significant experience and competency executing field crop research, including sampling protocols, experimental design, data collection, and analysis
- Experience with best management practices in Ontario
- Understanding of agriculture, environmental and economic farm sustainability, biosecurity, soil health, and water quality
- Exceptional interpersonal, relationship-building, and communication skills
- Ability to perform farm operational data conversions and calculations
- Excellent communication via phone, email, social media, and report writing
- Attention to detail, time management, organization, prioritization, and deadline management
- Proficiency with Microsoft applications, Microsoft Office 365 including Excel, data visualization software, digital survey-management programs, databases, and reporting tools
- Understanding of data sharing and security principles and experience navigating sensitive information
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, contribute creatively, and identify improvement opportunities
- Ability to handle high demand and remain positive and flexible as demands change
- Frequent travel required; access to a personal vehicle and reliable transportation essential
- Must hold and maintain a valid driver’s licence
- Dependable, high-speed internet connection for home-office work
- Must maintain professionalism and confidentiality when handling sensitive organizational information
- Certified Crop Advisor or P.Ag designation would be an asset
- Research-based master’s degree with an on-farm component and field-crop focus would be an asset
- French language skills are mentioned, but the requirement is truncated and unclear
