About the role

  • Research coordinator designing observational and experimental emergency medicine studies at the University of Alberta. Supporting resident research, statistical methodology, ethics approvals, data systems, teaching, and collaborative funding initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for research
  • Conduct thorough literature searches
  • Design and revise data collection forms
  • Assist with retrospective medical record reviews and systematic reviews
  • Assist in analysis and interpretation of study results using standard biostatistical software
  • Write sections of manuscripts for publication
  • Write epidemiological analyses and interpretations of study results
  • Lead applications for and maintenance of research ethics, operational, and administrative approvals
  • Obtain and catalogue Alberta Health Services (AHS) data-sharing agreements for research studies
  • Develop bioinformatics training for the Department of Emergency Medicine, including NetCare, REDCap, and EDIS
  • Develop and monitor approaches for data entry, database storage, and encryption using REDCap
  • Forecast and plan strategies to complete research milestones and timelines
  • Provide direction, support, and mentorship to junior colleagues, clinical faculty, and residents in research design, implementation, analysis, dissemination, and ethics approval
  • Support competitive research funding applications through development and coordination of application documents
  • Teach research methods to undergraduate students, residents, and graduate students
  • Foster and maintain relationships with internal and external project collaborators
  • Design and implement observational and experimental studies
  • Support the Departmental Research Director in teaching research curriculum and coordinate faculty contributing to research teaching
  • Serve as the primary contact for methodological and statistical support for resident research projects
  • Coordinate logistics, communication strategies, milestones, and study targets for collaborative research initiatives

Requirements

  • Minimum Master’s Degree in a relevant discipline such as Biostatistics, Health Research Methodology, or Epidemiology
  • Minimum 3 years of previous research experience
  • Research experience in healthcare and emergency medicine strongly preferred
  • Excellent research, analytical, and writing skills, with substantive contributions to peer-reviewed publications and/or academic conference presentations
  • Knowledge and experience in administrative data analysis, clinical trials, surveys, evidence synthesis, and/or qualitative research
  • Experience with systematic reviews, quality appraisal, and literature analysis for knowledge synthesis
  • Demonstrated skills in literature searches and preparation and presentation of research data and findings
  • Knowledge and experience with statistical methodology and statistical software such as SAS, SPSS, or STATA
  • Proficiency with web-based functionality, word processing, and presentation tools including Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaborate as part of a multidisciplinary research team
  • Knowledge of University of Alberta research policies and procedures
  • Excellent interpersonal, implementation, organizational, communication, and time-management skills
