About the role
- Journalist reporting breaking news and multimedia stories remotely for Postmedia, a Canadian news media company. Developing digital content for the Fredericton Daily Gleaner.
Responsibilities
- Develop content for web, mobile, print, and other platforms
- Generate daily story ideas and adapt to changing newsroom priorities
- Use social media and digital tools to identify breaking news and audience interests
- Cultivate sources to break stories and help set the news agenda
- Collaborate with digital teams to create interactive multimedia content, including text, photos, and video
- Cover a wide range of news and subjects under tight deadlines
- Work some weekends and statutory holidays
Requirements
- Graduating journalism school student or graduate, or candidate from a related field
- Ability to quickly layer and prioritize newsroom work
- Flexibility to work on breaking news, features, short form, and non-traditional story formats
- Curiosity and ability to uncover hidden story angles
- Ability to explain why and how events happen and convey meaning concisely
- Experience and strength in video, podcast presentation, and other digital tools is an asset
- Valid driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle are assets
- Bilingualism in English/French is an asset
- Cover letter, résumé, three published-work samples if available, and at least two signed references required with application
- Legally eligible to work in Canada
