About the role

Remote Journalist producing breaking and explanatory news for Postmedia, a Canadian news media company. Creating multimedia content for web and mobile audiences.

Responsibilities

Develop content for web, mobile, and other platforms
Generate daily story ideas and pivot to newsroom priorities
Use social media and digital tools to identify breaking news and real-time reader interests
Cultivate sources to break stories and help set the news agenda
Collaborate with digital teams to create interactive text, photo, video, podcast, and multimedia content
Cover a wide range of news and other subjects under tight deadlines
Work some weekends and statutory holidays as needed

Graduating journalism school student or graduate, or candidate from a related field
Ability to quickly layer and prioritize newsroom tasks
Flexibility to work in breaking news, features, short form, and non-traditional story formats
Curiosity and ability to find hidden story angles
Ability to convey the meaning behind news concisely
Experience and strength in video, podcast presentation, and other digital tools is an asset
Valid driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle are assets
Bilingualism in English/French is an asset
Only candidates legally eligible to work in Canada will be considered
Cover letter, résumé, three samples of published work if any, and at least two signed references required for application
