About the role

  • Life actuarial risk modelling and insurance consulting at PwC Canada. Supporting IFRS 17 audits, valuation, capital analysis, AXIS modelling, and client engagements.

Responsibilities

  • Support a broad range of consulting services and audit support assignments
  • Work closely with senior actuaries on Appointed Actuary and actuarial liability valuation work, capital and risk review and analysis, IFRS 17 advisory services, M&A-related consulting, product development, and other consulting work
  • Support IFRS 17 financial statement audits as an actuarial specialist
  • Assess valuation methodology and assumptions, experience studies, regulatory capital reporting, reserve reconciliation, and data validation
  • Collaborate with experienced actuaries and colleagues across PwC to ensure actuarial liabilities are fairly presented in financial statements
  • Work on ad-hoc engagements including insurance systems modernization, model governance, AXIS modelling, and development of AI solutions
  • Collaborate, plan, and execute cross-functional projects with Advisory, Deals, Assurance, Tax, and Data & Analytics
  • Work towards leading own engagements and teams
  • Coach and provide technical training to junior staff

Requirements

  • Considerable experience in an actuarial role in the life insurance industry
  • Actively pursuing the FCIA designation, or recent FCIA
  • Working knowledge of IFRS 17, investments, hedging, stochastic modeling, segregated funds, participating products or product development considered an asset
  • Prior experience within a consulting or advisory role is an asset
  • Demonstrated strong technical skills using Moody’s AXIS/Risk Integrity and MS Office suite
  • Proven ability working with data analytic tools (Tableau, Alteryx, VBA) and an appetite for development of AI solutions considered an asset
  • Exceptional commitment to providing excellent client service
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple, concurrent priorities and work effectively under tight timelines
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to explain complex actuarial concepts to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing differences and working alongside and/or coaching diverse people and perspectives
  • Available to work in Canada; work visa sponsorship is not available
