About the role
- Community Development Worker delivering mobile harm reduction education, referrals, supplies, and overdose response across Peel Region. Supporting public health outreach and partnerships with vulnerable communities.
Responsibilities
- Deliver harm reduction services, including education, referrals, support, and distribution of safer injection, inhalation, piercing equipment, and naloxone kits
- Provide overdose prevention and response training to clients and community members
- Serve clients across Peel Region through the Peel Works Harm Reduction mobile van during day and evening shifts
- Engage with vulnerable and underserved populations through respectful, stigma-free outreach
- Build and maintain partnerships with local organizations to enhance harm reduction service delivery
- Support community mobilization efforts by providing expertise and promoting harm reduction best practices
- Conduct community education sessions on harm reduction, substance use stigma, and overdose response
- Stock and organize mobile van supplies with team members to meet service delivery needs
Requirements
- Post-secondary education in health, social services, or a related field with strong emphasis on community outreach and engagement
- Minimum of 1 year of experience as a harm reduction support worker, community development worker, or similar role
- Recent experience in public health or harm reduction service delivery required
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
- Valid CPR certification
- Certification or experience in nonviolent crisis intervention techniques
- Valid G class driver’s license and ability to drive Peel Works Harm Reduction mobile vans
- Knowledge of harm reduction principles and best practices related to substance use
- Ability to engage respectfully with people who use drugs and other marginalized populations
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and cultural humility
- Effective written and oral communication and presentation skills
- Strong organizational, time management, and assessment skills
- Awareness of issues impacting Peel’s diverse communities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Experience using the NEO database or similar systems
- Availability for day and evening shifts, Monday to Friday, with potential occasional Saturdays
