About the role

  • Billing Systems Architect owning Quote-to-Cash infrastructure for Upsun’s cloud application platform. Configuring billing, pricing, revenue recognition, and financial integrations globally.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the hands-on technical owner of the BillingPlatform environment, configuring catalogs, price cards, usage rating rules, and automated invoice schedules
  • Own ongoing platform health, including system updates, pricing launches, recurring bill-run troubleshooting, sync exception handling, and root-cause issue resolution
  • Use SQL for data validation, rating engine auditing, and operational reporting
  • Collaborate with Engineering to receive mediated usage data via systems such as DigitalRoute or Kafka
  • Maintain and optimize API-driven integrations between BillingPlatform, upstream CRMs such as Salesforce, downstream ERP/GL tools such as NetSuite, and payment gateways such as Stripe
  • Partner with Accounting to ensure rating rules, revenue schedules, and general ledger mappings satisfy ASC 606 and IFRS 15 compliance standards
  • Gather technical and operational requirements from Accounting, Finance, Sales Ops, and Product teams and translate them into sustainable platform configuration
  • Maintain billing data continuity and manage subscription data updates or migrations without disrupting financial operations or revenue recognition flows
  • Serve as the technical lead bridging Finance, Product, and Engineering
  • Support new pricing model launches, complex usage rating schemes, and financial system integrations while optimizing platform performance and automation

Requirements

  • Proven hands-on experience configuring and administering enterprise Quote-to-Cash or billing platforms (e.g., Zuora, Salesforce Revenue Cloud/CPQ, NetSuite Billing, Aria Systems, or BillingPlatform)
  • Strong proficiency with SQL for querying and auditing billing data
  • Solid grasp of REST APIs, webhooks, and ETL workflows
  • Experience supporting complex SaaS or infrastructure pricing models, including PLG, hybrid commitment-plus-usage, tiered rates, and consumption-based/metered billing
  • Practical understanding of revenue recognition fundamentals (ASC 606 / IFRS 15) and how accounting rules dictate billing engine design
  • Ability to bridge technical language and financial business logic while collaborating with engineering teams and accounting stakeholders
  • Methodical approach to diagnosing system sync errors, rating anomalies, and integration edge cases
  • Legally authorized to work in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Spain, the United Kingdom, or the United States
  • Ability to pass a background check
  • Bonus: Experience with DigitalRoute mediation software or Kafka event-stream data intake
  • Bonus: Previous exposure to cloud infrastructure, PaaS, or developer-platform usage metrics
  • Bonus: Background supporting system migrations from implementation partners into internal teams
