About the role
- IT Systems Engineer owning Microsoft 365, Entra ID, and macOS/Windows endpoint infrastructure. Supporting Engineered Intelligence’s utility grid management software business across Canada.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain the Microsoft 365 tenant architecture and configuration
- Administer Entra ID as the organization's identity provider
- Design and maintain conditional access policies, MFA enforcement, and privileged access controls
- Maintain scalable group-based entitlement and licensing structures
- Support SSO integrations into client environments with Development and DevOps teams
- Own the macOS and Windows endpoint fleet, including procurement, imaging, MDM enrollment, and configuration baselines
- Manage patch compliance, disk encryption enforcement, and remediation of non-compliant devices
- Manage warranties, refresh cycles, and secure disposal
- Design and automate joiner, mover, and leaver processes, including account provisioning, hardware logistics, shipping, and first-day setup
- Deprovision accounts and access on employee exit the same day
- Ensure automated processes generate their own records
- Automate recurring administrative work using PowerShell and Microsoft Graph; maintain documented scripts in version control
- Maintain SaaS application inventory, optimize licensing, manage renewals, and identify unsanctioned applications
- Provide day-to-day technical support to staff
- Produce runbooks and documentation for maintainability
- Offer technical solutioning suggestions and quantify technical debt
- Report to the Head of Platform as the company's first dedicated IT hire
Requirements
- Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience
- 6-10+ years in corporate IT, systems administration, or systems engineering in a professional environment
- Demonstrated experience building or rebuilding a Microsoft 365 environment
- Experience administering Entra ID, including conditional access, MFA policy, group and licensing structure, application registrations, and SSO integrations
- Experience with Microsoft Intune, including device enrollment, configuration profiles, application deployment, patch compliance, and encryption enforcement
- Experience administering and governing Exchange Online, SharePoint, and Teams
- Experience managing a mixed macOS and Windows endpoint fleet
- Automation capability using PowerShell and the Microsoft Graph API
- Experience as the primary or sole IT function at an organization of approximately 30-150 people
- Sound judgment in sequencing change within a live production environment
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team; self-starter comfortable with complex systems and broad responsibilities
- Candidates must be located in Canada with work authorization (Citizenship, PR, or Open Work Permit)
- Preferred: experience under ISO 27001 or SOC 2 and understanding of audit evidence
- Preferred: experience with Microsoft Defender and Microsoft Purview
- Preferred: experience supporting software engineers
- Preferred: exposure to common cloud services and corporate identity integration with cloud workloads
