About the role
- Software Development Manager leading two C++ FME Engine teams at Safe Software, which builds enterprise data integration technology. Coaching developers, managing backlogs, and overseeing technical delivery.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of technical projects
- Collaborate with Product, UX, and other stakeholders to prioritize work
- Guide technical direction and ensure smooth delivery
- Support team members’ growth and well-being through coaching, feedback, and development opportunities
- Lead two FME Engine development teams
- Lead developers through coaching, feedback, and professional development
- Act as product owner for the teams
- Manage the backlog and prioritize features and internal improvements
- Oversee technical delivery, manage project flow, and address risks early
- Support architecture and design discussions
- Build a positive, inclusive team culture centred on collaboration and shared ownership
- Guide hiring, onboarding, and team growth
- Champion continuous improvement in tools, practices, communication, and AI-assisted ways of working
- Liaise between the team and broader organization, advocating for team and business needs
Requirements
- 7+ years in software development
- 3+ years leading software teams as a people manager, team lead, or similar role
- Direct people management experience strongly preferred
- Solid understanding of Agile development practices and software system design
- Strong working knowledge of C++
- Product owner experience in an Agile environment, including backlog management and feature prioritization
- Demonstrated interest and practical experience adopting AI tools within a development team
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with a focus on empathy and clarity
- Demonstrated ability to support team health and build inclusive, high-performing teams
- Ability to balance technical direction with team and business priorities
- Exposure to Python, particularly for test frameworks, is nice to have
- Familiarity with Safe Software’s platform or similar technical domains is nice to have
- Involvement in mentoring, DEI, or culture-building initiatives is nice to have
- Knowledge of hiring practices, onboarding, and team-building techniques is nice to have
- Experience with AI Coding Agents such as Claude Code or GitHub Copilot is nice to have
- Legally eligible to work in Canada
