About the role
- VP of Engineering leading architecture, security, budgets, and engineering teams. Guiding SaaS platforms and XR training simulator products for a growing Canadian software company.
Responsibilities
- Lead, coach and develop the engineering teams behind SaaS platforms and an XR training simulator
- Own the technical architecture of existing and new products, keeping them scalable, secure and cost-effective
- Guide several new products currently in development from architecture through launch
- Own the technology budget, including infrastructure, tooling, vendor and AI usage costs
- Build product and technology roadmaps supporting the move from project-based work to recurring-revenue products
- Set security standards across software and XR products
- Expand the team's use of AI tools and agents to raise productivity while tracking and optimizing costs
- Join client meetings alongside account management and product when technical leadership is needed
- Participate in leadership discussions on product and business strategy
Requirements
- 5+ years in senior technology leadership, accountable for how engineering teams plan, build and deliver software
- Proven strength in people leadership, including hiring, coaching and retaining engineers and earning the trust of established teams
- Track record of defining technology roadmaps and taking software products from concept to market
- Direct ownership of a technology budget, with accountability for infrastructure, tooling, vendor and AI spend
- Deep expertise in software architecture, cloud infrastructure and application security
- Hands-on experience integrating AI tools and agents into engineering workflows, with a clear view of their cost and return
- Executive presence with clients and leadership, translating technical strategy into business terms
- Experience with XR, VR or mixed reality products, or with Unity development (nice to have)
- Experience moving a business from project-based delivery to a product model (nice to have)
- Exposure to labour unions, skilled trades, apprenticeship programs or member-based organizations (nice to have)
