About the role
- Software Development Manager leading FME Form development teams at Safe Software, a data integration platform company. Managing people, product delivery, backlogs, and technical priorities.
Responsibilities
- Oversee planning, execution, and delivery of technical projects
- Lead a team of developers through coaching, feedback, and professional development
- Manage direct-report responsibilities, including performance conversations, calibration, and HR processes
- Collaborate with Product, UX, and technical stakeholders to define and prioritize work
- Act as product owner and project manager for the team
- Manage the backlog and prioritize features and internal improvements
- See planned work through from kickoff to delivery
- Oversee technical delivery and address risks early
- Support architecture, product, and design discussions with QA, Customer Support, and other stakeholders
- Build a positive, inclusive team culture centred on collaboration and shared ownership
- Guide hiring, onboarding, and team growth
- Champion continuous improvement in tools, development processes, practices, communication, and AI-enabled ways of working
- Liaise between the team and other parts of the organization
- Maintain and extend FME Form products that enable users to author, share, reuse, and integrate dataflows with the FME Platform
- Report to the Director, Software Development
Requirements
- 7+ years in software development
- 3+ years leading software teams as a people manager, team lead, or similar role
- Direct people management experience strongly preferred
- Solid understanding of the software development lifecycle
- Agile development practices
- Working knowledge of software development in any language, such as C++, Python, or Java
- Product owner or project management experience
- Backlog management and feature prioritization using Jira or equivalent project management software
- Openness to and support for adopting AI tools within a development team
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to support team health and build inclusive, high-performing teams
- Ability to balance technical direction with team and business priorities
- Open, adaptable mindset toward change
- Confidence establishing credibility with experienced senior engineers
- Experience with C++ software development is nice to have
- Familiarity with Safe Software’s platform or similar technical domains is nice to have
- Experience with AI Coding Agents such as Claude Code or GitHub Copilot is nice to have
- Legally eligible to work in Canada
