About the role
- Property claims adjuster handling complex residential, agricultural, and commercial losses for SGI. Investigating damage, determining coverage, estimating costs, and negotiating settlements across Saskatchewan.
Responsibilities
- Adjust a wide range of moderately complex and complex property claims
- Collect, review, investigate, and analyze claims-related information
- Interpret applicable acts, regulations, and policy coverages to negotiate claim settlements
- Conduct or direct site visits to determine damage or loss scope
- Participate in standby rotations during busy Claims seasons
- Interview customers and collect pertinent loss information
- Submit vendor assignments for repairs and inspections
- Set up claim files, determine causes of loss, establish and adjust reserves, and complete claims documentation
- Explain coverages, benefits, breaches of condition, and exclusions
- Contact and interview brokers, customers, witnesses, contractors, police and fire departments, legal representatives, medical professionals, and other parties as required
- Obtain statements under oath, proofs of loss, medical reports, releases, and other settlement documents
- Create and adjust estimates using estimating software
- Maintain current and orderly claims records and files
- Refer suspicious, contentious, or high-value claims for assistance
- Assess negligence and quantum in liability or bodily injury claims
- Determine subrogation opportunities and take appropriate action
- Negotiate settlements with customers and representatives
- Prepare claim files for legal action, further investigation, review, or denial
- Reconcile invoices and process accounts and expenses for payment
- Represent the corporation in Small Claims Court and other judicial, legal, institutional, or regulatory proceedings
- Attend road assignments and adjust claims distant from established headquarters where required
- Hire, oversee, ensure quality of work, and evaluate vendors and contractors
- Participate in reviewing and developing new products, procedures, and programs
- Maintain customer contact throughout claims that may last from months to years
- Identify salvage opportunities and coordinate valuations, sales, pickups, or future salvage disposition
- Maintain relationships with broker partners and vendors
- Improve claims processes and deliver a seamless customer experience
- Support continuous learning, knowledge sharing, mentoring, training, transformation, and strategic initiatives
- Apply health, safety, emergency management, leadership, accountability, and change practices
Requirements
- Two-year diploma from an accredited post-secondary education institution in a relevant field of study, such as Business, or defined equivalency
- Possession of a valid driver’s license, in positions where required
- 3 - 5 years’ experience comprised of at least two years property adjusting and one year insurance related experience
- Advanced knowledge of insurance coverages and benefits provided by policy wordings and applicable legislation for national property claims
- Advanced knowledge of insurance theory and claims adjustment and settlement principles, practices, methods, and techniques
- Advanced skill in determining values, depreciation, repair, or replacement costs, including estimating systems and imaging appraisals
- Proficient knowledge of customer service initiatives and demonstrated customer-centered decision-making
- Proficient understanding of residential, agricultural, and commercial building construction
- Proficient knowledge of agricultural equipment mechanics, operation, and use
- Proficient knowledge of applicable residential, agricultural, commercial, and agricultural equipment policies
- Ability to use extensive software and applications, including estimating software
